History

Art in the Park became a Department of Cultural Affairs arts partner to serve the under-represented Northeast Los Angles communities of Highland Park, Glassel Park and what is known now as Hermon Park.  Art in the Park was officially inaugurated in 1997 and has been active in the community since then. The initial thrust for Art in the park was to bring art, music and culture education to the surrounding communities.  Art in the Park started out by organizing 2 yearly festivals, the Corn Festival in June and the Day of the Dead Festival in November. These were attended by thousands of people, and thus Art in the Park became known in the community as the place to go and learn music, art and culture.
